BANNED BOOKS: Unfair or Justified?

Some may think of my book as controversial, and perhaps it is (in some ways). After learning about several novels in recent years and months that have been banned from libraries, I realized that my book may very likely get banned from a number of school libraries too. I won’t say where it’s likely to happen, but I won’t be surprised if it does.

Hopefully, my novel won’t get banned, because I want every reader to be able to obtain it and read it. If it does get banned, though, know that you have the right to petition to have it reinstated. You can also ask your librarian, whether at school or a public library, to protest the ban. This applies to any banned books.

This got me questioning what constitutes a book getting banned. I admit I covered some controversial topics in my novel, but not on a level so extreme that it deserves to get banned from any libraries. I do realize the book is especially for the YA/New Adult audience, so I was already limited on what I could write.

Regardless, I won’t be removing anything from it, partly because doing so would be unauthentic to the story. If it does get banned, then I’ll wear the badge with honor. Thank you! Have a great day! 😊

For your reference, there’s a long list of banned books that became classic literature. If you’re interested, view the list on ala.org (and at other locations) and read the reasons why they got banned. You can determine from there if it was unfair or justified, their getting banned. Have a happy weekend. =)
