Another fave. One of my favorite characteristics of film noir is that the main female characters were depicted as intelligent, confident women. However, they were also depicted as villains, and thus they eventually were given the title “Femme Fatales.” With all that in mind, I learned to pick out the good qualities of these fascinating women and, for the most part, ignore the rest. Having taken a film class in college, I developed a love for film noir. Our professor was especially fond of Citizen Kane, and so, one of our textbooks was on the cinematography of that American classic. Citizen Kane set a recognizable tone and standard for the film noir movies that were made after it. I gather Double Indemnity was one of them being that it was made just a few years later. There are some recognizable similarities in the cinematography, including with the lighting and also the music. It’s another one that’s quite captivating to watch.
