In regards to the uniqueness of art and artist style, it baffles me how often people compare the writing styles of authors, just to say “Oh, I don’t like how that author writes. They could have written it instead like this author.” What? That author is a unique human being just like any other person. How about paying closer attention to what they’re actually saying with their words? For me, part of the intrigue of reading a book or short story is to notice the uniqueness of the particular author, including their author voice, style, the words they used (wondering why they used those particular words instead of others), why they repeated that particular phrase instead of writing it in a conventional manner, and so forth. I think it’s mentally nurturing, as a reader, to be genuinely interested in the uniqueness of people and also what messages the authors are trying to convey in their stories. Expecting authors to sound the same is like expecting singers to have the same voice or people to look exactly the same. How boring would that be if it was the case? For me, discovering author voice and author personality in written works is one of the joys of reading. It’s an added layer of fun. Read on freely with adventure in mind, and write on confidently, appreciating your individual uniqueness. #artappreciation #art #literaryart #artists #authors #literatutelove #readingappreciation #joysofreading #readinglove #MIAMusic #MathangiArulpragasam
