Not only is it a way to express both the pain and joy that one feels, it’s also an exit strategy out of the ghetto, the “non-native reservation” of which the corrupt have systemically placed people of color. So, when someone is talented in rapping (musical poetry), as DMX was, and they make it out of the ghetto, it’s something to be celebrated. DMX’s success and all the goodness that occurred in his life, despite all the troubles he endured, is something to be celebrated.
