Charles Dickens is one of my favorite authors too. A progressive soul, and his writing style is conversational (my favorite style of writing). Classic literature appreciation! Dickens was a social activist in Britain and visited also the United States to study and critique our nation’s social issues. He then spoke about those social issues to help bring about reforms for the people in both nations. His stories are generally sad and disturbing, but the underdogs tend to triumph. Just that alone makes his stories worthwhile.
